Another part of the movie which was hard to understand was when Nicholson fell on the detonator at the end of the film. Nicholsonss leadership abilities made his officers not give in to Saito and start anual work, and hence continued to be punished in the oven. His leadership abilities are portrayed well when the British medical officer comes to meet him at the oven, Nicholson was more concern about his officers than about himself even after he was deprived of food and water for numerous days. His pride and patriotic qualities tacilitate him to stand by his word against Saito even atter physical and emotional harm is being inflicted on him during the period of negotiation. I feel hat during the time of positional bargaining with Nicholson, ultimately carving under pressure and letting him out of the oven, Saito should have used his own soldiers for the bridge (till such time Nicholson was persuaded to make his men work) and created more discipline and collaboration among the workers for the timely completion of the bridge. I feel that there was little room for principled negotiation as Nicholson was not willing to do so. The worse part of the movie was the collapse of the bridge in the end. A bridge which was the cause of various negotiations between Saito and Nicholson, in the process esulted in numerous threats, blackmail and infliction of physical and emotional harm from Saito to Nicholson and consequentially got Nicholson himself killed. By the collapse of the bridge all that seemed to be a waste. 0 What did you find to be the most interesting or surprising element of the film? Why? The most surprising element of the film is the fact when Nicholson decides to take over the responsibility to construct the bridge after having won the negotiation against Saito and having no obligation towards doing so. This was not present when Saito is in charge of the bridge as stated by he British engineer when he was questioned by Nicholson what he would have done differently if this was his bridge. Because of the task-oriented approach of Nicholson and he planning ahead step by step which can be seen when he says this is the end of the agenda while meeting with Saito for discussion of the proposal for the new bridge, the soldiers were able to effectively collaborate. This suggests that Nicholson is from a linear Active Culture. Pride and patriotism can be seen when the British officers were marching in group and whistling. 7 Leadership was portrayed by Nicholson when the British soldier brought him food in he oven. Nicholson had not seen sun light for days, was weak and deprived of food and water but even then he was more concern about his officers than about himself. Moreover, if we leave Iraq vulnerable to the surrounding hostile countries, would take control of a major part of the worlds oil supply. I personally believe that this particular aspect of the pullout does not require much expounding. The simple logic that there is nothing beneficial that would happen if the worlds oil supply would be controlled by terrorists, is already enough for me. We are currently having an energy crisis, if the terrorists would monopolize the worlds oil supply, we could just imagine the chaos that would breakout. Another important aspect that we should consider is the reputation of the US as a country and moreover, a country of the world. I know this may sound as negatively ethnocentric, but the image that the US is now getting more and more alarming. It seems that the US is building up a reputation as a country who cannot stand firm alongside the commitments we had made. During the past commitments of the US, we consequently get the reputation that we cannot be trusted when the situation gets difficult. A classic example of this is when the US had to leave the Vietnam War and consequently leave allies vulnerable to the enemies. The marines in Beirut and the famous Black Hawk Down incident are just other examples. If this trend would go on, the US would be just confirming the opinions of the critics. The worst thing that could happen is that the people might lose faith in the US strength as a nation, not to mention the opinions of other countries. But the most important reason for not pulling out our troops in Iraq is for the troops themselves. Moving the troops to Iraq had caused a considerable amount of time, money, and effort. Moving the troops out of Iraq would likewise require as much. Flying them out of the country would not happen in just days. But the most critical point is that if we move the troops out gradually, the troops that would be left behind would be vulnerable to attacks. A gradual pullout would just translate to the gradual diminish of the military strength in the country. The only safe time when we could pull out our troops is only when the insurgents have been fully suppressed. The result of this would not only make the return of our troops safe, but Iraq would be left as a safe and politically stable place. As a conclusion, I would just like to reiterate that no one likes wars. I personally detest the concept of wars, just as much as everyone in the world does. But there are some situations that we are required to do things that we do not like, simply because we have to. We could just go back the analogy that prevention is the best cure. We could just think of the war as a bitter medicine that would help us prevent a disease. We could just swallow the bitter taste of that action taking into consideration the safety of the US, Iraq, our troops, and the whole world. If not pulling out our troops would be the key towards peace even in just one part of the world, I strong believe that it is a choice we have to make as a peace-loving nation. Outer influences can affect someone’s decision to do something wrong, and, if brought up well, this person will not make these poor decisions. Scout is enticed to hate black people, but Atticus teaches her why humans are all equal. Jem, Scout’s older brother, learns as he matures that one should accept people for who they are. After Tom gets accused of being guilty, Jem even cries. In essence, Jem and Scout are both taught from home how to act throughout life. When Scout begins talking to Miss Maudie and Dill, she hears wild stories of the man who is locked inside his house for fifteen years, and once he is in his thirties, he attacks his father with a pair of scissors. This man is Arthur â€Å"Boo† Radley. Atticus catches his children and Dill trying to lure him out of the house and teaches them that not everything they hear is true (although, this rumor is true. The children quit provoking Boo for a while, but near the end of the book, they meet him on person after he saves their lives from a drunken man. They learn that Atticus was right in saying that not everything that one hears is true. I have learned nearly all I know from my mother and father. They have taught me basic skills, as well as proper etiquette. I have had many mentors in my life, and I believe that my parents are the best ones I have and will have. They have taught me all I need to know in my life from home.

ANALYZING KING LEAR'S TRAGIC FLAWS King Lear is a play about a tragic hero, by the name of King Lear, whose flaws get the best of him. A tragic hero must possess three qualities. The first is they must have power, in other words, a leader. King Lear has the highest rank of any leader. He is a king. The next quality is they must have a tragic flaw, and King Lear has several of those. Finally, they must experience a downfall. Lear's realization of his mistakes is more than a downfall. It is a tragedy. Lear is a tragic hero because he has those three qualities. His flaws are his arrogance, his ignorance, and his misjudgments, each contributing to the other.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The first flaw in King Lear is his arrogance, which results in the loss of Cordelia and Kent. It is his arrogance in the first scene of the play that causes him to make bad decisions. He expects his favorite, youngest daughter to be the most worthy of his love. His pride makes him expect that Cordelia’s speech to be the one filled with the most love. Unfortunately for King Lear’s pride, Cordelia replies to his inquisition by saying, â€Å"I love your majesty/According to my bond and nothing less';(1.1.100-101). Out of pride and anger, Lear banishes Cordelia and splits the kingdom in half to the two evil sisters, Goneril and Regan.
